Donald Trump made many promises while campaigning for President before the 2016 election.
Many of his promises appealed to the working class.
One such promise was made in Warren, Michigan.
“If I’m elected, you won’t lose one plant, you’ll have plants coming into this country, you’re going to have jobs again. You won’t lose one plant, I promise you. I promise you.”
Taken at face value, Trump’s promise was not only reassuring but exciting. As the past two years have played out, however, it has become increasingly clear that Trump has neither the intention nor knowledge to keep such promises.
This week, General Motors announced that they were closing not one, but as many as five plants in North America. GM will also be cutting up to 15,000 workers. While some of those jobs are in Canada, many American plants are on the closure docket.
One of those plants is in Warren, Michigan.
Tuesday, Chris Hayes invited filmmaker and activist Michael Moore onto his show to discuss the recent announcement from GM.
During the interview, Moore called Trump out.
“That’s the thing about Trump. He doesn’t understand how he’s been played by GM.”
He also said that General Motors is “doing what it’s always done”.
Moore continued to prod at the President:
“I’ve wondered in these two years why corporate America and Wall Street have been kind of quiet about Trump, because he has never been one of them.”
The Fahrenheit 11/9 director forged ahead with a now-famous quote:
“To corporate America, to Wall Street, Trump’s been the trailer trash of the millionaire class. They never let him into their club, their exclusive high-end club.”
The internet cannot get enough of Moore’s description of Trump.
‘Trailer trash of the millionaire class’ is spot on. https://t.co/71Uaxzn4bJ— Gregory Panos (@ngagecompany) November 28, 2018
Best line ever. "Trailer trash of the millionaire class." pic.twitter.com/H2PtMM0B4J— missus cellophane (@MoxieRoxYerSox) November 28, 2018
Moore did not stop there.
“You’re such a fool, Trump. You’ve been played again by these people who’ve never liked you.”
People could not agree more.

Let’s spread this. Trump will go nuts on Twitter. Trump really does believe that he is the only one playing.— Sue Davis (@sld8) November 28, 2018
Michael Moore, I total agree. pic.twitter.com/WeCYm27KCF— marie williams (@mariewill07) November 28, 2018
At minimum this confirms that Trump will say anything to get elected. He didn’t say he would fight for increased manufacturing, he guaranteed more plants.— sean (@soxfan01760) November 28, 2018
The first thing you do at a poker game is figure out who the sucker is. If you can't, then it's you. If you think you are the smartest person in the room you have no ability to figure out the sucker. And you will get played every time. North Korea. Russia. Saudi Arabia. GM.....— Gordon McClendon (@GordonMcClendon) November 28, 2018
@mmflint speaks the truth: you're the "trailer trash" of millionaires.— Josef K. (@apls452) November 28, 2018
you're an embarrassment who's never fit in -- you've always been rejected by anyone with a modicum of intellect and good taste and compassion ....
you're an oaf -- a buffoon --
Mueller gonna get u 😁😄
“That’s the thing about Trump. He doesn’t understand how he’s been played by GM,” Michael Moore on GM's plant closures. Moore can be an extremist and lose the plot, but he's right on this. https://t.co/rVb9GpGwRi— Adam K Olson (@adamkolson) November 28, 2018
Perhaps now people will realize that Trump is full of empty promises?
