Pastor Donnie Romero first graced headlines after the horrific and heartbreaking shooting at the Orlando nightclub, Pulse, in 2016. Now he is back in the spotlight for a very different reason.
After the Pulse shooting, Romero told his Fort Worth, Texas congregation, Stedfast Baptist Church, that all gay people are pedophiles.
He went on to tell congregants that he was praying that the injured victims from the shooting would die.
His reason for such an obscene statement?
“So that they don’t get any more opportunity to go out and hurt little children.”
He went even further, saying:
“I’ll pray to God that God will finish the job that that man [Omar Mateen] started.”
In a recent turn of events, it has been discovered that Pastor Romero has resigned from his position at Stedfast Baptist Church.
Romero resigned in front of his congregation on January 2, stating:
“I have not been ruling my house well. I’ve been a terrible husband and father.”
He went on to say that his wife and seven children are not to blame:
“I’m the one at fault in this situation. I love Stedfast Baptist Church. I love my family. This is the best decision for my family and this church to make.”
The now-former pastor’s resignation did not go into further detail about why he was stepping down.
However, Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church was there for Romero’s resignation.
Pastor Anderson later explained Romero’s decision in a YouTube video.
Anderson described Romero’s sins as “grievous.”
He went on to tell viewers:
“The major sin involved was being with prostitutes, and then there were also marijuana and gambling.”
The hypocrisy in this situation is remarkable.
Most people, however, don’t seem terribly surprised.
The harder they thump that bible, the farther they fall.

This isn’t shocking any more. These guys that preach the loudest, fall the hardest.

Of course he was. It’s always the ones who are so adamantly against something for no apparent reason that have a lot of skeletons in their own closets (ex. Airport bathroom toe-tapping Senator and many others).

I do not take joy in this story, but there is a little piece of me that gains satisfaction

Pastor Donnie Romero, who called gay people immoral ‘scum’ who should be ‘put to death’ & hoped Pulse shooting survivors died, has been fired for sleeping with prostitutes, smoking pot & gambling.
Here’s my forgiveness & sympathy for you, Pastor –🖕🖕🖕 https://t.co/90Sj5k6bCR

Neither Romero nor Anderson has commented on the situation, but Romero’s replacement, Jonathan Shelley, did say that the gender of the prostitutes is unknown.
