Tucker Carlson isn’t exactly known for his inclusive worldview.
After slamming attempts to promote diversity, trying to argue women shouldn’t make more money than men and calling a guest a “f*cking moron”, you’d think we have a pretty good grasp on how his mind works.
Well, we got a deeper look into his thoughts over the weekend when Media Matters for America shared recorded audio of Carlson defending a child rapist, speaking very derogatorily about immigrants and generally being the exact kind of Tucker Carlson weÂ’d imagine calling into a radio show to share his worldview.
The most recent audio clip gathered by Media Matters and released by NowThis News shows CarlsonÂ’s own views on underage women.
The clip displays Carlson talking to “Bubba the Love Sponge” in a radio call about the possibility of sleeping with a contestant in the Miss Teen USA contest.

Bubba and Carlson were talking about the 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant, where Caitlin Upton, Miss South Carolina Teen USA, gave an answer to a question which had the internet and media commentators mocking her.
“She’s like, she’s vulnerable. She’s like a wounded gazelle, separated from the herd.
“She’d probably be a pretty good wife. Don’t you think- I mean if you had a wife that dumb, would it be good or bad?”
The audio file has elicited reactions of rage and disgust toward an already despicable man.
Can we, as humanity, agree that this is toxic masculinity baseline? However far you are from this, the less-toxic your masculinity? https://t.co/VUgdWj9vOu— Scarlett Rabe (@scarlettrabe) March 13, 2019
the way grown ass men talk about 16 year old girls is obscene https://t.co/BfK3OczmCU— Talia Lavin (@chick_in_kiev) March 13, 2019
i’m sick hearing men talk about a 17 year old like this ??— tina snow jr. ?????????? (@peopleofASHANTI) March 13, 2019
The video continues with Carlson making a very lewd prediction that the showÂ’s host, Mario Lopez, slept with the contestant with absolutely no credible evidence as to why.
ItÂ’s an absolutely disgusting recording.
Media Matters has been digging into CarlsonÂ’s attempts at legitimizing white nationalism in mainstream culture for a little while. Finding these recordings of Carlson freely saying racist and sexist things, itÂ’s difficult to argue.
Despite all this, Tucker Carlson is refusing to step down. He gave a long rant on the idea that Media Matters would bring up these tapes, reducing the backlash to just an angry mob.
Fox News has backed the pundit, even though a couple of his few remaining advertisers have pulled their support of the show. Donald Trump Jr. even tried voicing his support, though it was understandably mocked.
It hasnÂ’t stopped people from calling to have him removed from the air.

I think these are worse than the ones from Sunday night? https://t.co/HmUhEtMvAL— Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) March 13, 2019
I'm sure Tucker Carlson will whine about this being a decade ago, but he was *38 years old* talking about finding a teenager attractive and joking about her having sex https://t.co/T5DKkt894n— Jessica Valenti (@JessicaValenti) March 13, 2019
Over at The Guardian, Moira Donegan dove in on how the response of support for Carlson shows the pattern of behavior grown men display toward young, teen girls. The hosts joke about the age of consent in South Carolina possibly being 16, while never considering theyÂ’re literally talking about having sex with a child.
This culture is covered in this language.
It encourages men like Carlson to say these things not out of pure attraction, but a display of power. And as he keeps not apologizing for what he had said, he shows how unrepentant he truly is for these comments.
ThereÂ’s a good chance Carlson will not be removed from Fox News, not because of this, at least.
However, itÂ’s important to understand that when people watch that channel right now, this is the kind of mentality they are presenting to their viewers. When people defend him for his comments, these are the ideas they are defending.
Tucker Carlson said some gross things, and people online got mad. If thatÂ’s your only takeaway from all this, you arenÂ’t paying attention.
