A young, Black girl in Kansas City, Kansas is recovering after being knocked unconscious by another child.
The attack is suspected to be racially motivated.
The 11-year-old was brutally assaulted Friday evening.
You can see local news coverage here.
The girl, Neveah Thomas, was playing with her friends Friday evening when a boy a year older than her called her racial slurs.
Thomas responded to the bully saying:
“My Black is beautiful.”
This upset the boy, who knocked her unconscious with a pole.

Brandi Stewart, the girl’s mother told local Fox News4:
“She suffered from a concussion. She has stitches inside and outside of her cheek, she lost her tooth.”
“Her feelings are more hurt because of the act of, the racial act, not so much of the scarring.”
After the assault, the neighborhood is up in arms over the incident. Some are calling for the boy to face charges.
As of writing, the boy has been charged with aggravated battery and is on house arrest.
Johnson County Kansas District Attorney Steve Howe can’t talk in details about the case, since the accused is a minor, but that the next step is focusing on correcting behavior.
“Probably one of the chief things that the court wants to do is get an evaluation to determine what are the underlying factors that are causing this behavior.”
Glad to see this is finally getting press coverage, and also that her attacker is being charged with aggravated battery.https://t.co/CgeFn1IpJE

He should be charged with a hate crime..
"The boy was charged with aggravated battery, a felony, said Johnson County District Attorney –who added said hate crime charges could be filed in the case, although the juvenile court system handles those differently than adult court." https://t.co/Nv3WwQ5qc3
