Ryan Reynolds Felt He Had To Warn Hugh Jackman About Making Fun Of Him In ‘Deadpool 2’

Deadpool 2 opens at theaters nationwide this Friday and star Ryan Reynolds offered Hugh Jackman a heads up about the movie, saying that there are instances where Jackman is the butt of some jokes.

WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD.

After starring in Logan last year, Jackman announced that he intended to retire his role as Wolverine, but this didn’t stop Reynolds from trolling him in the post-credits of Deadpool 2.

There’s a fake Jackman cameo, but…

The fourth post-credit scene in Deadpool 2 shows Wolverine and the original Deadpool (also played by Reynolds) as they appeared in X-Men Origins: WolverineExcept in the new sequel, the revamped Deadpool shoots the previous Deadpool in the head and then proceeds to shoot Reynolds himself in the head as he reads a copy of Green Lantern.

The gag suggests that the new timeline should be consistent. By killing the previous version of the character, Reynolds may have reset the Marvel universe, leaving the door open for a potential silver screen mashup of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Reynolds, who plays the title character, told US Weekly that the film’s jabs represent his hopes to one day star alongside Jackman in a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover.

One person I definitely talked to was Hugh before I threw him over the coals. He’s bigger than me so I for sure let him know we’d be making fun of him a little, but I love him. I’m really trying to see a Wolverine and Deadpool movie.

Reynolds commented further on his desire to see Jackman return as Wolverine.

I think convincing Hugh [to return] would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best.

I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.

Last week, actor Jackman fired back at Reynolds, saying that Reynolds needs to “tone it down” and “play hard to get.”

Ryan…back it up a little. Play a little hard to get. It’s too much. It’s not sexy.

Jackman has praised the sequel, however, telling fans on Instagram that Deadpool 2 is “genius.” Jackman has also said that he’s ready to see the role of Wolverine passed on to another actor.

I’m gonna say this once, and then delete it… really quickly: Deadpool 2 is a work of genius.
