Just a few days after Carole Baskin openly criticized Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” music video for containing big cats, Cardi B has responded in true Cardi B fashion.
Cardi B, in an interview with i-D Vice on Thursday, August 13th, said she was “not gonna engage” with Carole Baskin in a fight about big cats.
Her only other words on the matter? “Like, that’s just ridiculous you know? Oh, Lord. Like, girl you killed your g*ddamn husband.”

Cardi B vs. Carole Baskin wasn’t the beef I expected for 2020 but it’s the beef we deserve.

Cardi B and Carole Baskin feud, was this on anyone’s 2020 pandemic bingo sheet? https://t.co/W0QlnUFN0L

Baskin’s criticisms of “WAP,” aside from it was sexually explicit, came from the artists’ sourcing and treatment of the cats in the video:
“You have to pose a wildcat in front of a green screen to get that image, and that doesn’t happen in the wild. It can’t happen in sanctuaries like ours where cats have plenty of room to avoid a green screen (or would shred it if offered access and could die from ingesting it). That tells me they probably dealt with one of the big cat pimps.”

Cardi B also said she never expected the response was going to get nationwide, to the point where even “conservatives and Republicans” would be talking about it ceaselessly.
“I didn’t think the song was as vulgar as they said it was, you know? Like, I’m so used to it. I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world…”

“They keep talking and the numbers keep going up. At the end of the day, whatever they’re saying, the numbers speak for themselves,” she concluded.
“WAP” is headed for its fourth week at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is Cardi B’s fifth top ten song in the UK and Megan Thee Stallion’s second.
Thanks for the publicity, Carole!
