The Met Gala may be one of the year’s most fashionable events but that doesn’t mean a thrifty DIY accessory won’t look great on the red carpet. For instance, actress Amber Heard got rave reviews on Twitter over her stunning outfit, and especially the unique headpiece that brought it all together.

But it turns out the headband that left everyone so speechless was made of nothing more than zip ties and some paint! Sarah McGonagall was the first to notice on Twitter.
My favorite part of this year's #MetGala was realizing that Amber Heard is a DIY queen. pic.twitter.com/sk6YIlIZbI

The theme of this year’s gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” so Heard’s halo felt like the perfect touch. It turns out she picked it up from a small indie designer for a very thrifty $32.
Those zip ties headband of Amber Heard was a genius idea man.

The headband’s designer responded to McGonagall’s viral tweet, thanking Heard for supporting indie fashion designers:
I made this crown. While #amberheard may not be a diy queen, she supported this small indie designer and that's pretty awesome too ?

The headband came from Apatico, a Seattle fashion shop operated by Megan Bishop. She was contacted by Heard’s stylist, Emily Dawn Long, to give the ensemble a “last minute” touch. The next thing she knew, people were obsessing over her accessory at the Met Gala!

This look is so underrated. I honestly think she aced it! The golden headpiece makes her look ethereal and unreal. We all know red is her color. pic.twitter.com/791fNwflzJ
Little did Bishop know the sale would be so good for future business:
I’ve been making these crowns for so many years and people are excited that they have the same crown as Amber Heard. I love it.
But while the headpiece looked like it was made out of solid gold, it was actually made out of zip ties. And even better, it wasn't made by a well known couture designer, but a small indie brand. You have to love artists who help elevate small businesses during such important, https://t.co/0IBhSyuoFr

The headpiece is called “The Mary Crown,” and is described on Apatico’s website as “inspired by classic images of the Virgin Mary in Catholic art and imagery and Dia De Los Muertos, angels, saints.” The website also notes that the “crown is made of plastic zip ties (cable ties). It is not made of metal. Please be aware of this before purchasing.”
