Lottery Winner Kills Sons, Himself After Wife Confronts Him For Blowing His Winnings On Sex Workers

43-year-old David Stokes was a lottery winner from Hinckley, England.

After his estranged wife discovered he had spent most of the money on sex workers, Stokes reacted violently.

He attacked her, killed their sons and held her hostage before taking his own life.

Stokes won £40,000 (~$51,500) in a recent lottery.

But he quickly blew most of it on “shares and a new car” according to The Sun.

Stokes and his wife, Sally, had previously separated but remained on good terms.

That is, until Sally discovered a secret phone of David’s in the kitchen.

The phone reportedly contained booking confirmations for female escorts and searches for date rape drugs.

After confronting Stokes, Sally stormed out, leaving him alone with their children.

When Sally returned, her husband attacked her with a rolling pin and attempted to suffocate her with a pillow. Though she didn’t know it at the time, Stokes had murdered their children Matthew, 5, and Adam, 11, and left them under a nearby quilt.

Sally described the scene:

“He looked evil. I thought at that moment I was going to die. He was saying it was all my fault. The fact is he was the one who was sleeping with prostitutes.”

Sally tried to escape out the back door, but was dragged back inside.

A neighbor heard her screams and called the police, sparking a five-hour hostage situation. Stokes told authorities he had a gun and that his children were safe but would be harmed if he was threatened.

After hours of tension, Sally managed to escape to the authorities after her husband had stabbed her in the back.

“I felt a bump in my back, then I felt warmth. I put my hand there and realized I had been stabbed…the look on his face was like satisfaction as if he’d kind of won. I’ll never forget that.”

When police stormed the building, they discovered Stokes had plunged a knife into his own chest, leaving a suicide note behind.

It read, in part:

“I love Adam and Matthew and we will all be together again soon…Sal, I’m so sorry for all the things I’ve done and hurt you ….”

The killer then tried to blame his estranged wife for his choices.

An investigation into the tragic murders is ongoing.
