On Tuesday, April 10, Comedian T.J. Miller was arrested by federal authorities, who charged him with reporting a fake bomb threat on an Amtrak train heading towards Connecticut.
Comedian TJ Miller arrested by the FBI in Connecticut for calling in a hoax bomb threat while aboard an Amtrak train— Aaron Katersky (@AaronKatersky) April 10, 2018
While traveling, Miller lied about what train he was on and insisted there was a bomb on board.
#TJMiller reportedly called a 911 dispatcher and reported that he was on an Amtrak train traveling from Washington, DC to Penn Station in New York and that a female passenger "has a bomb in her bag." https://t.co/w1txqCRnWo— Consequence of Sound (@consequence) April 10, 2018
T.J. Miller was arrested for allegedly "intentionally conveying to law enforcement false information about an explosive device on a train traveling to Connecticut" https://t.co/3sM50aYxrV— Hollywood Reporter (@THR) April 10, 2018
If convicted, Miller could spend up to 5 years in federal prison.
Miller was arrested last night at LaGuardia Airport in Queens. He appeared today before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven and was released on a $100,000 bond. The charge carries a maximum term of imprisonment of five years. https://t.co/h92VmBI0iL— Ryan Parker (@TheRyanParker) April 10, 2018
Unsurprisingly, alcohol may have played a role in Miller's actions.
The attendant on T.J. Miller's train stated that he "appeared intoxicated upon boarding in Washington" and "he consumed multiple drinks on the train" https://t.co/C4iViQPvLj— Hollywood Reporter (@THR) April 10, 2018
There may have also been an element of revenge.
"The complaint further alleges that MILLER, motivated by a grudge against the subject female, called 911 to relay false information about a suspected bomb on the train, and continued to convey false information to investigators while the public safety response was ongoing." Miller has been in the midst of a fall from grace.
Less than a year ago, he was thought of as talented, unique comedic voice. Things began to take a downward turn when Miller left his role on Silicon Valley, starred in The Emoji Movie, and was accused of sexual assault.
This comes after a December exposé in which T.J. Miller was accused of sexually assaulting and punching a woman https://t.co/ONulKXBKkw— The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast) April 10, 2018

Those who have been following Miller's unpredictable career aren't incredibly surprised by this incident.
the weirdest news that is somehow completely unsurprising https://t.co/YzmGXkfYH0— Andy Orin (@andyorin) April 10, 2018
Miller was taken into custody at New York's Laguardia airport and was released on a $100,000 bond. A trial date has yet to be set.
