When it comes to comedy, the most important quality is timing. For instance, bomb jokes will almost never go well when told to a flight crew while boarding an airplane.
According to the South Florida Sun Sentinal, on Wednesday, February 13, Nathalie Tremblay was trying to shove a suitcase into the overhead compartment onboard her flight in Florida when she was approached by a flight attendant, who asked her whose bag it was.
Deciding it was time to go for a laugh, she responded:
“There’s a bomb in it.”
Though Tremblay’s boyfriend told her “not to joke around,” the damage had already been done. The stewardess reported her joke to the captain, who ordered the plane be evacuated.

The entire terminal closed down as authorities did a thorough sweep to ensure no bombs had made it through security.
She is not exactly a #Candidate for a # PHD - How many years ago were we WARNEd to NEVER make a joke or imply a problem on an airplane? Air passenger who 'joked' about a #bomb in #luggage is #arrested https://t.co/qf0TOnHAVy— Travelaviator (@Travelaviator) February 14, 2019
Meanwhile, Tremblay desperately told detectives she had made a “stupid joke.”
At this point, you have to wonder who doesn't know you can't joke about bombs at an airplane or in an airport. But I think that and then immediately remember that it is 2019 and we are still having blackface scandals. https://t.co/DxBZUvg3mT— Mark Pitcavage (@egavactip) February 16, 2019
She was proven truthful shortly thereafter when the bomb squad cleared the area. Passengers were then allowed back on to their planes.
You can't not take it seriously if you're going to be 40,000 feet in the air.— Hans Wildmann (@WildmannHans) February 16, 2019
Twitter collectively facepalmed in Nathalie’s direction.
It should be common sense not to yell that on a plane— Marc Baggett (@Marc978) February 16, 2019
How dumb to you have to be? This should have been her pre-arrest punishment. https://t.co/YiMibwfb2i— indictmentduck (@indictmentduck) February 16, 2019
When my brother or I asked our dad why people did horrible or stupid things he'd often say evolution is hard and humans are terrible at it. Right again, Pop.— Mick Strongin (@MickStrongin) February 16, 2019
I mean, it’s kind of silly because obviously anyone who says it is actually going to be joking except that’s when the terrorists do reverse psychology and send grandmas telling jokes about bombs— Jody Shenn (@JodyShenn) February 16, 2019
Only one passenger got left behind after the area was deemed safe: Tremblay. Unfortunately, she was arrested on charges of filing a false bomb threat report. Sorry, Nathalie—tough crowd!
