Latanette McDaniel was walking in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco at around 11pm on the night of December 14 when she was approached from behind and stabbed in the back.
Her attacker quickly fled the scene, leaving McDaniel to die. She wasn’t going to give up that easily, however.
Latanette banged on the windows of a nearby bus and screamed for help while she was being attacked.
She collapsed to the ground soon after her attacker fled, but emergency services had already been summoned.
When police arrived on the scene, McDaniel was repeating phrases like “I’m dying” and “I’m going to die.”
That wasn’t all she was saying, though. She used her dying breaths to name her attacker, too.
Latanette also kept repeating that “Vernisha did it,” and that her attacker was on Potrero Hill to police at the scene and in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
She succumbed to the stab wound that punctured her lung and died shortly after reaching the hospital.
