Dog lovers sometimes go to great lengths to show how much they love their pups. Memorial tattoos for dogs are actually pretty common and can be adorable pieces of artwork.
Justin Theroux has long had a love and respect for pit bulls, welcoming several into his family and advocating for the breed. He’s even done work to help homeless pitties find their forever homes.
OMG The Cuteness…
The seriously maligned breed (which actually doesn’t even exist, “pit bull” is a catch-all term for several different breeds and breed mixes) gets a lot of bad press in the states right now – but in other nations and at other times, things were different. They’ve been hailed as heroic, and their patience and love for young children earned them the nickname “Nanny dogs.”
Justin’s love of pit bulls is quite well known, and quite infectious. Former wife, Jennifer Aniston, even got swept up in the puppy love!
Pittie smooches are the best smooches, obviously.
We LOVE our dogs, we love pit bulls, we love tattoos, we even love tattoos of pit bulls… but we’re not sure about Justin’s ink. The actor had two of his beloved rescue pits pass away and decided that he needed tattoos to honor them.
Rather than get tattoos of the dogs, he went … another direction. While sitting down talking to Jonathan from Queer Eye, he explained:
“So I had two dogs, both rescues, pit bulls … and when they died, I dedicated half my back to one and half of my back to the other. So it’s a picture of a rat because my dog used to kill rats in Washington Square Park. It was horrible. I mean, they were doing a service to New York. Oh, and then a pigeon. A New York pigeon and a rat.”
Jonathan – notorious for his cool demeanor and not at all expressive or dramatic face (note: if you’re not a fan of Queer Eye, those were all lies. Such lies.) – reacted like this.
The tattoo, which is briefly visible in the clip, is done in black and grey and covers the upper portion of his back from shoulder to shoulder, and down about half way.
Jonathan… you good over there?
What can we say, the man loves his puppers and he’s obviously VERY proud of their achievements in life.
The story may be a little morbid, but we kinda love it. You can watch the full clip here.
