Woman Demands Coworker Reimburse Her For Girl Scout Cookies She Bought But Never Received

Don't mess with people's Girl Scout cookies.

Every year, people wait and salivate for a chance to stockpile the goods.

So when a person pays for a box or ten, delivery is expected.

Missing cookies are no laughing matter.

Redditor lunx26 wanted to discuss her experience and get some feedback, so naturally, she came to the "Am I The A**hole" (AITA) subreddit.

She asked:

"AITA for expecting a replacement of Girl Scout cookies that never made it to me?"

The Original Poster (OP) explained:

"I (28 F[emale]) ordered 3 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from a coworker (we'll call her A) who was selling them for her granddaughter."

"I paid for all 3 boxes, 1 of which (Tagalongs) was for me, the other 2 were for other people who had sent me money to get the cookies for them (both ordered a box of Adventurefuls)."

"I was never told there would be a 3rd party handoff and assumed I would be getting them from A."

"Yesterday, a different coworker (we'll call him B) told me that A had given him the cookies to give to me, but he took them home with his cookies, and his 13-year-old son ate one of the cookies."

"But he only gave me 1 box, the Tagalongs."

"B said that his son only ate 1 box of cookies, and that A only gave him 2 boxes total, not 3."

"Now I'm stuck in a weird situation."

"I confirmed with A that she gave him 3 boxes."

"B still says that he was only given 2."

"I ended up with only 1."

"The only box that was mine."

"So now I have to either replace the 2 boxes that were paid for by other people or explain to them the situation that was out of my control."

"Is it unreasonable to expect that A replaces it or refunds it since she handed them off to someone who wasn't actually responsible for getting them to me?"

"Or unreasonable for me to expect B to replace them?"

"Or would that just make me an a**hole over some Girl Scout cookies?"

The OP was left to wonder:

"So... AITA?"

Redditors shared their thoughts on this matter and weighed in on some options to the question, AITA:

NTA – Not The A**hole

YTA – You're The A**hole

NAH – No A**holes Here

ESH – Everyone Sucks Here

Many Redditors declared that OP was NOT the A**hole.

"Why did A give them to B instead of directly to you?"

"Does B have any excuse for letting his kid steal your cookies, which weren't even yours?"

"It sounds like he hasn't offered to replace them either, which is a total AH move."

"NTA. It sounds like B should replace the box he admits his son ate, and A should replace the other box since she gave it to someone else you hadn't authorized."

"It's like FedEx handing your box to a random neighbor - if that box disappears and they both point fingers, FedEx is liable for it." ~ NapalmAxolotl

"B needs to replace the box his kid ate."

"A needs to replace the box B claims he never received."

"And if I were you, I wouldn't buy anything from or through A again. NTA." ~ Nester1953

"Group text message addressed to A saying, I'm not sure what's going on, but I paid YOU, A, for 3 boxes of cookies, types 1 & 2, of which I have only received type 1, and it wasn't from you, they were from B, who apparently was supposed to be your delivery person."

"Can you two please work this out and either 1-give me the rest of my order, or 2-refund me directly yourself."

"Thank you for your attention to this matter." ~ IslandChill_420-024

"Yes, I would group text."

"This way, A is aware that at least one of the boxes got eaten by B's son, and B is claiming they only received 2 boxes."

"NTA but B sure is." ~ Electrical_Emu8386

"NTA. You paid her, and she gave the boxes to someone else!"

"She owes you 2 boxes or the money back for 2."

"He owes her a box." ~ MerlinBiggs

"NTA. A and B need to figure out how you will get your 2 missing boxes."

"It's not your problem that B's son ate one box or that one box went missing between A and B."

"You paid for 3 boxes, you should get all of them or your money back."

"If A thrusts B to forward them to you, and one box is missing, it's between the two of them." ~ EssaySlow323

"Let A and B fight till the death."

"Tell A you want your cookies or your money back." ~ No-Bunch6895

"I would get both A and B together and ask them to compensate you for the cookies."

"A needs to pay because she didn't deliver to you, and B needs to pay because he didn't deliver the cookies to you."

"You can advise them that it's a penalty for one being lazy and the other being a thief."

"Let them fight it out about who's in the wrong."

"Otherwise, you're going to Girl Scout and H[uman] R[esources] to complain bitterly about both of them. NTA." ~ KnickKnockers

"NTA, but I'm with others here."

"Do a group text so all the info is out."

"Let them hash it out between each other."

"Unless you have A's permission to give your order—your PAID order—to B, it's on her to replace or refund."

"Whether she gets the replacements or refunds from B is between them. Pffft."

"For B: How are you gonna take an order someone else paid for, let your kid eat the whole effing box, and not even give them the money for it?"

"Like WTAF??"

"And given that attitude, I'd bet he DID take all 3 boxes from A."

"What a d-bag." ~ ohemgee0309

"NTA. You should at least get a refund, but it sounds as if the coworkers in the deal are not stepping up to meet their obligation."

"My advice is that you should probably just give the people who expect the cookies their money back, and chalk it up to a lesson learned."

"Lesson: Don't become a middleman and don't ever do business with your coworkers again."

"I'm sorry it worked out this way." ~ Love_my_garden

"If you bought something from A and she didn't give it to you, then A must replace it."

"If she raises any stink whatsoever, do not engage with her again and go straight to the Girl Scout leadership of that area."

"What she did was inappropriate for exactly this reason." ~ PerelandraNative

"NTA at all."

"You have every reason to be upset."

"I agree with others who say a group chat is needed."

"Tell them both that either one can refund you or find a way to get you the two boxes you are missing."

"I would tell them that I expect either the money or the cookies to be on my desk sometime soon."

"Did you ever ask A why she gave them to B to give to you and not to you directly?"

"Did you ever ask B why he never gave the cookies until later?"

"For next year, you could either buy them online or go to the Girl Scouts website, and they will tell you where in your area Girl Scout troops are setting up pop-up cookie-selling events (usually outside grocery stores, auto repair shops, etc.)."

"That's where I got my cookies this year."

"They usually do the events on weekends too." ~ StaceyJeans

"You're NTA."

"A made herself responsible for giving you the cookies (she is not supposed to be selling them on behalf of her granddaughter in the first place, but that is a separate issue)."

"She owes you two boxes of cookies or a $12 refund because she failed to deliver." ~ Dittoheadforever

"NTA, she needs to be refunded or replaced."

"She did not give them to you, and you did not receive them."

"If she's going to be selling them for her granddaughter, that means she needs to be delivering them as well."

"If she refuses, I'd go to HR."

"She's ripping off coworkers on their time/at their place."

"You can also figure out the granddaughter's scout troop and contact them directly with the issue." ~ Beneficial-Guess2140

"NTA if you expect A to reimburse you/replace your boxes, but going after B to replace your stuff isn't a good idea - you didn't ask them to look after your cookies, so it's an extra complication that you shouldn't try to bother with."

"Keep it simple. "

"A is the person you bought the cookies from."

"Only one box got to you, and that means that A needs to either give you money back or replace the two boxes you haven't received yet."

"Separately, since they apparently trusted the wrong person with your order, A needs to get payment off B for the box their kid stole, and wrangle with them about which of them is to blame for the third missing box."

"I would advise they both check their cars, their bags, anywhere they might have put their bags down, anyone who might have been in the vicinity of unattended bags, and the kid's bedroom."

"But that disagreement is wholly between them, and nothing to do with you."

"You can express sympathy for the mystery of the missing boxes, but don't let them - either of them - guilt trip you into letting them leave you with less than you paid for." ~ Normal-Height-8577

"What Girl Scout troop asks for the money up front?"

"I've never paid for Girl Scout cookies until they deliver them."

"That being said, you need to get A and B together to get their stories straight, because someone owes you money/cookies. NTA." ~ ToGryffindor

"It is absolutely up to A to refund or replace the cookies."

"Your contract was with her and no one else."

"Stand up for yourself and don't let her blow you off. NTA." ~ panic_bread

"A got the money; A gives you the two missing boxes, or if that's impossible, refunds the money to you."

"Then A goes to B and collects the money from him."

"A is responsible for your loss since she was the one who took your money and was responsible for ensuring you got the cookies."

"B has to answer to A for the missing box and the eaten box."

"A knows (or should, if not completely incompetent) whether or not B actually got the missing box. NTA." ~ SavingsRhubarb8746

Reddit is with you, OP.

Your co-workers are robbing you.

Getting HR involved might not be a bad thing.

Someone is not acting in good faith here.

Go get what belongs to you.

Good Luck.
