Former First Lady Michelle Obama sat down for an interview with Robin Roberts to talk about her new memoir, Becoming. During the conversation for 20/20, the subject of Melania Trump came up. Roberts asked Obama if Trump had reached out to her seeking advice for her new role.
Obama kept her answer short and to the point, saying:
“No, no she hasn’t.”
Obama continued, saying about Trump’s progress as FLOTUS:
“You know, one of the things you learn as a former, it’s, like, I don’t judge, what a current is doing, you know? So I’d prefer not to, you know, speak on what she’s doing versus what I did because I think every first lady approaches this job differently.”
A spokesperson for Trump responded to the comment by saying:
“Mrs. Trump is a strong and independent woman who has been navigating her role as First Lady in her own way. When she needs advice on any issue, she seeks it from her professional team within the White House.”
Some folks have wondered if Trump is heeding her own “Be Best” advice.
Everyone please be gooder to each other on this website, and stop being badder. Be best to each other, not least good. Our children cannot not not afford to be ungreat to each one of another's other.— Ben Collins (@oneunderscore__) May 7, 2018
“Be best” sounds like an entire campaign based on an autocorrect error— Aparna Nancherla (@aparnapkin) May 7, 2018

Others thought Trump could have benefitted from a little Obama knowledge.

She would have learned from Michelle, a highly educated and classy FLOTUS!— Naj (@nurse_msn) November 13, 2018

She reached out for her speeches thou 🤷🏽♀️😆— Tresha (@Trej26) November 14, 2018
The Trump administration never takes advice. They see it as a sign of weakness. Unfortunately, it has not served them well. Nothing about Melania has been be best.— Nita Cosby (@5_2blue) November 13, 2018
Mrs. Trump...is his wife...she agrees with him and his policies She too is a horrible person with NO MORALS— Valerie Fillmore (@ValerieFillmore) November 13, 2018
We have to consider that the Trumps have only hosted one state dinner, Melania has only the “Be Best” initiative, husband is the top offender. Finally, the Obama’s are in a happy, healthy, monogamous relationship. So she really doesn’t have anything to help with.— LaurelJeannine (@LaurelJeannine) November 14, 2018
So much for being best— P_Russ 🍷🍺 (@pruss34) November 14, 2018
Trump is so obsessed with hatred and resentment for Obama; I don’t doubt that Melania is fobidden to embrace Michelle in any way.— Shepherd (@gwendolynj354) November 13, 2018

Whether we are asking for help or not, always remember to be best, or, as Michelle Obama said, “Be better.”
