Olympic Gymnast-Turned-Politician Wins Re-Election For Mayor Despite Leaked Video Of Him At An Orgy

A Hungarian mayor came out on top after winning his re-election on Sunday, but his victory became short-lived amidst a sex scandal.

On Tuesday, Zsolt Borkai announced his resignation from Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party, but not as mayor, after a video of him engaging in an alleged drug and alcohol-fueled orgy with young women leaked online.

The video showing the 54-year-old cavorting with prostitutes on board a luxury yacht on the Adriatic Sea surfaced on Pornhub—one of the largest adult websites—days before Sunday’s local election.

The mayor of Győr, the sixth-largest city in northern Hungary, is a married father of two who won the gold medal for the pommel horse at the 1988 summer Olympics in Seoul.

He also took the gold medal for the pommel horse and a bronze medal for the horizontal bars at the 1987 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam.

Borkai initially claimed the damaging video was part of a smear campaign by the opposition wanting to oust him from running in the political race.

The Washington Post reported that an anonymous blogger by the name of “the Devil’s Advocate” posted links to the X-rated video and accused Borkai and his lawyer of using government funds to hire escorts for his hedonistic romp on the high seas.

He told Hungarian media:

“I consider the lies published about me to be part of an opposition campaign aimed to divert attention away from their own incompetence.”

However, Borkai later confirmed it was him featured in the video, though it is unclear who shot the footage and why it was filmed during the private excursion.

He told local television Győrplusz TV:

“The published recordings picturing me were made years ago. Some of the footage is manipulated, other parts are genuine.”

Borkai also denied using public funds for his excursion and the allegations of drug use.

“I am initiating criminal proceedings in respect to the case.”

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Borkai’s ally, is fuming over the scandal setting back the country’s dominant Fidesz party’s foothold in the election for the first time in a decade.

The right-wing Fidesz party, led by Orbán, was founded in 1988 as a youth party that opposed the ruling communist government.

He describes their mode of government as an “illiberal Christian democracy” or partial democracy.

Orbán is notorious for portraying the party as one that invokes Christian and family values while criticizing Western society for their liberalism.

Borkai said at a news conference:

“The events around me should not put Fidesz at a moral disadvantage.”

While that is all well and good, the opposition party took back control of Budapest and four other of the country’s major cities.

However, Orban remains determined that the hiccup will not affect his government.

“The elections showed that Hungary’s strongest party is the alliance of Fidesz and the Christian Democratic People’s Party. We’re going to continue to behave accordingly.”

People had plenty to say mocking the scandal, but one user noted this hilarious coincidence.

Borkai also served as president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee but was replaced by Krisztián Kulcsár, a former fencer and two-time Olympic silver medalist, on May 2, 2017.

According to Inside the Games, Borkai plans to continue as the Mayor of Győr as an independent.

Despite his determination, any hope of Borkai salvaging his reputation seems adrift at sea.
