Two Ohio Little Caesars Employees Fired After Putting Pepperoni Swastika On Couple’s Pizza

News 5 Cleveland/YouTube

The Little Caesars location in Brook Park, Ohio, has found itself short two staff members thanks to a poorly thought out “joke.”

Jason Laska picked up a pizza at that location to take home to his wife. When he got home and the couple sat down to eat, they opened the box and were faced with a topping they didn’t ask for – a swastika made out of pepperoni.

A backwards swastika, mind you, but still jarring.

The couple attempted to contact the location that night, but were not able to reach anyone. So they posted the pizza on Twitter so people could see for themselves.

When Little Caesars got wind of the situation, they moved swiftly to take corrective action. The company reached out to the couple directly and had their management investigate, which resulted in the responsible employees being fired.

They also released the following statement:

“We have zero tolerance for racism and discrimination in any form, and these franchise store employees were immediately terminated. We’re deeply disappointed that this happened, as this conduct is completely against our values. We have also reached out to the customer to discuss this personally with him.”

Still, we bet you’re wondering how the symbol-covered pie even made it to the customer. For those answers, we turn to YouTube.

It turns out Jason showed up shortly before closing time and asked what the chain, famous for their “hot & ready pizza,” had already made. He was told they had a cheese and a pepperoni left. Jason took the pepperoni.

The pie he was handed was, indeed, a pepperoni pizza – but it was one that had been made as an edgy joke between coworkers at that location. The pizza was never intended to be served to customers – it was never even cut into slices.

The participants were fired, and Little Caesars reached out to the customers, both corporate and the owner of this particular franchise.

Still, neither Jason nor Misty are feeling like the situation is truly resolved. Jason told media outlets that he doesn’t grasp why the employees thought this “joke” needed to be made in the first place.

“We’re trying to solve hate and even if this was just a joke internally for the employees, just stop. Stop with the symbolism and let it go away.”

Misty shares his sentiment. She believes this sort of joke just isn’t funny, particularly given the current social climate.

Misty doesn’t think firing the employees (who were both minors and not Black, White, or Jewish) goes far enough.

“What repercussions are they getting from that determination when they can just go right down the street and find another job?”

Twitter is a little less passionate about pizza punishment than Misty is.

But that doesn’t mean they think this sort of thing is okay. Even KFC took a jab at the story!

Little Caesars has always stood for inclusiveness and acceptance as a brand. We hope the minors involved grow up to take that lesson to heart.

She is still actively mourning the passing of Prince and hopes to one day do an all-iguana remake of Graffiti Bridge since iguanas are plentiful near her home in South Florida. She has yet to find one that can really nail the “ahhhyayayeaheaheah” that Tevin Campbell does in Round and Round, and everyone knows the music is the important part of any Prince film.
