A new viral video captured an uncomfortable ordeal that has become a reality in the pandemic era.
A crowd of middle-aged women, none of whom wore masks, marched into a coffee shop, confronted the location’s manager, and insisted that it was totally unfair to have them wear masks. They then launched into disorganized claims about national guidelines and their right to breathe.
The manager—who did wear a mask—countered the crew with a classic “kill them with kindness” approach.
“I appreciate your guys’ strength but we do have rules and regulations at this location.”
“So if your not going to wear a mask I will call the authorities to come remove you. If you’d like to order with us, we can take your order outside and then we’ll bring it out for you.”
“That is what we can provide for you.”
Immediately, the anti-maskers accused the saleswoman of discrimination, to which she gave another stern response in the friendliest of tones.
“As for my store, being the manager of this store, I am required to have everyone where a face mask. For the safety of all of my customers.”
One member of the group then attempted to throw the book at her, claiming the manager was going against CDC guidelines.
It’s worth noting that the most recent CDC guidance recommends “that people wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.”
Following that claim, multiple women in the group all speak over one another as they insisted that the shop was breaking the rules. One read directly from a sheet of papers that were allegedly CDC guidelines.
Rather than wade through the sea of voices, the manager then began to call the police.
As the video closes, an officer arrived, apparently because another employee had already called.
Kaloma has even claimed to be a part of a fake governmental organization called the “Freedom to Breathe Agency,” which even the Department of Justice has denounced as phony.
In response to video, and the manager’s unbelievably stoic approach, Reddit users had plenty to say.
“Bruh… she literally said ‘if you don’t have a mask… you can place an order outside and we will bring it out to you’ HOW THE F*** is this refusing service?” — widepeepoSleepy
“The strange thing is, one of them has a print-out mail with highlights (it’s like they were ready for this: it makes you wonder what kind of intentions they had when they started to film this).” — vegamontesino
“First sentence, ‘I’m glad you came to show everyone that we have a face mask mandate…’ argument over put your phone down.” — jeihkeih
“Good god. I feel SO BAD for anyone having to work during this pandemic and dealing with people like this on a regular basis. Dreading going to work during a pandemic takes it to a whole new level” — CandleThumpinH*e
Though we don’t know when Employee of the Month is awarded, it’s a safe bet that she’s in the running.
