We all need a break sometimes, but it’s best to avoid inciting panic in your friends and family on your way onto the plane. Case in point – Dan Harmon of Rick & Morty and Community fame has done a lot of emotionally heavy interaction on Twitter, bouncing between harmful rants and genuine therapy in his engagements with fans. Well, it’s been a difficult few months, and this kind of vagueness on Twitter can really freak people out.
Yeaaaahhhh. Unnerving. We’ve seen a ton of high-profile creatives committing suicide just this month, and this smacks of that flavor. Naturally, Harmon’s fans all kinda wigged out and his friends texted him directly. Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady made a diplomatic inquiry that best sums up our reactions:
I leave you - i Leave you Twitter, not I leave you mortal coil - with the adorable exchange between me and @billprady two seconds after I tweeted my accidentally ambiguous farewell. See you on instagram pic.twitter.com/ujVGwP2Fji— Dan Harmon (@danharmon) June 25, 2018
It’s good to discover your weaknesses, though doing so publicly can be worrisome. Harmon deleted the Tweet and offered this far more chipper announcement to soothe the troubled souls on his threads.
Oh God I really have to get better at my “leaving Twitter for a while” tweets, I’m sorry. Deleted that one. I’m leaving Twitter for a while! Not the other thing! Thank god @billprady texted me. I’m taking a twitter break! I love my life! I ordered a Tesla, I’m sticking around— Dan Harmon (@danharmon) June 25, 2018
That’s TWICE I’ve done that now, it’s really embarrassing. One of these days i’m gonna want to make people think I might self harm and they’re just going to think I’m turning my phone off for dinner!— Dan Harmon (@danharmon) June 25, 2018
So yeah. Apparently, Dan’s headed off to Instagram because of just how bad Twitter is. You do you, Dan. The fans, justly mollified, offered him a pat on the back on his way out.
You scared me, Dan. Glad you’re okay. I agree social media is a nightmare carnival. Enjoy your time off.— Eric Avedissian (@angryreporter) June 25, 2018
I’m certain like a thousand people were about to call the police to go check on you dude.— Martha (@girlfromPBO) June 25, 2018
Enjoy the new whip, enjoy social media freedom, get out of here and enjoy your life my dude!— The Terrible Twink (@BinarySoul42) June 25, 2018
And several fans hoped it’d be a cue for a new season of Rick & Morty.
Yeah, screw Twitter! Taking a break from this wordy-word app gives you more time to work on #RickandMorty season 4! Wubba lubba dub dub, baby!!— Amanda V. (@mandaneurotica) June 25, 2018
Go on and be productive. We need more Rick and Morty. All is forgiven.— Antman (@AcostaComedian) June 25, 2018
Working vacation or otherwise, we hope he gets all the time he needs.
