A group of young siblings are safe after an attempted carjacking, where they overpowered the would-be thief with an iPad and strangulation.

16 year old Imama, from Chicago, Illinois and her younger siblings (a 10-year-old brother and 5-year-old sister) were able to successfully fend off a carjacker after her tried to commandeer their car.

16-year-old Imama said in an interview with ABC Chicago:

“This dude just jumps in the car and he looks back and I realize it’s not my dad, so I go, ‘Who are you?'”

“I was just scared for my life, I didn’t know what to do.”

Things escalated quickly when the kidnapper threatened to shoot them.  But the kids had a plan.

After pretending to comply with the carjacker’s demands, the ten year old boy, Hasnain, began to strike the carjacker with his iPad.

“I said, ‘I’ll get out, fine,’ and then I started hitting him with the iPad.”

The iPad was only stage one.

Imama explained:

“My phone was dead so I couldn’t call 911.”

“I see my dad’s phone in the passenger seat so I, like, try to strangle the dude from the back because I was right behind him.”

The three children escaped unharmed and managed to get that call to 911 off without a hitch.

The police have identified four suspects: Steffy Lagunas, 19; Ralph Enriquez, 22; Kaily Lagunas, 19 and a 16-year-old boy.

Each suspect has been charged with one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to vehicles.

The siblings were thankfully reunited with their father a short time later, who had stepped outside of the car to get Domino’s Pizza for the family.

May 2020 bring us all such great improvisational skills.
