Man Arrested After Being Caught On Camera Hurling Racial Insults At Mother Of Five In Supermarket

An incident that mirrors far too many in America these days took place in Glasgow, Scotland on April 12, 2019.

Zaitoon Sharif was out shopping at Toryglen branch of Asda supermarkets when she was confronted by a “Scottish caucasian man” who went out of his way to harass her.

She captured the incident on video, in which the man can be heard telling her to “go back to her own country” (Sharif was born in Scotland).

The violent nature with which the man confronted her and her family left Sharif, along with her children, very shaken.

“My daughter and niece are both autistic and were extremely frightened by the whole exchange,” she said in her Facebook post.

“For something like this to happen in my beautiful Scotland is just disgusting. I myself am OK-ish, but my girls were extremely shaken by the whole thing and very frightened.”

Reportedly this has happened before with people from Glasgow:

After Sharif called the police, a man matching the description of the offender was arrested and charged.

“If I take anything away from this incident, it’s always to say stand up for yourself in a dignified manner,” Sharif concluded.

“If you see someone being harassed just stand beside them. You don’t have to say anything or do anything just show the person they are not alone.

Hate crime, racism and Islamophobia has reared its ugly head again.”

Videos have surfaced across the USA of similar racist rants.  “Go back to Mexico,” said one racist white woman.

A Connecticut public school teacher used the “N” word in a public place, resulting in her being fired from Hamden’s school system.

These incidents are beginning to emerge as a pattern—and we must all pay attention.
