On the latest episodes of “please vaccinate your kids, you dumb jerks,” a 6 year old boy is recovering from Tetanus after spending 57 days in the hospital.
Tetanus is caused when bacteria from such things as dirt or rust enters the skin.
Tetanus is called “lockjaw,” because the bacteria causes the muscles to essentially freeze. A victim suffering from Tetanus could easily die of suffocation.
How did the boy contract Tetanus?
Why, because his parents refused to vaccinate him. And following their 8 week stay in Intensive Care, they are still refusing to vaccinate him.
What. The. Hell.????— Jon Hislop, MD, PhD (@HislopMD) March 8, 2019
So, these parents don’t vaccinate their kid...he gets TETANUS...????...they couldn’t open his mouth for water...he spends 8 wks in hospital...somehow recovers...
...& they still won’t vaccinate him.????♂️
What? That wasn’t scary enough?!?????https://t.co/ZBUdA0nqCo
If that doesn’t make you rage, the boy racked up nearly $1 million in hospital charges because today’s hospitals are not equipped to deal with Tetanus.
The vaccine has mostly made treatment unnecessary.
According to ABC:
“Use of tetanus vaccines and tetanus immune globulin had led to a 95 percent decrease in tetanus cases and 99 percent decrease in tetanus-related deaths since the 1940s, according to the CDC, which recommends that children receive the DTaP vaccine at ages, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 15-18 months, and then at 4-6 years old, and that adults receive tetanus and diphtheria (Td) boosters every 10 years.”
Since the 1940s–a ninety-nine percent decrease.
The boy was saved using the tetanus immune globulin as well as the diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis (DTaP) vaccine.
So his parents saw the light and asked for his immunizations to be brought up to date, right?
A 6-year-old unvaccinated boy is the first child to contract tetanus in Oregon in 30+ years. He got infected when he cut himself playing and his family stitched up the wound.— AJ+ (@ajplus) March 8, 2019
His treatment cost almost $1 million.
His parents still refused to give him other recommended shots.
"This illness could have been prevented with five doses of the tetanus vaccine, for $150," a physician says. Instead, the ordeal cost $811,929. https://t.co/a5jXVXtRWp— NPR (@NPR) March 9, 2019

Putting your kid through 2 months of hell because you felt like it is child abuse. https://t.co/GvUcBGZA48
This is how much ableism costs: $800,000, two months of life-and-death agony, weeks of rehab, and lifesaving labor that could've been spent on something *not* preventable. All for (groundless) fear of autism. AND THEY REFUSED TO VACCINATE HIM AGAIN. https://t.co/9ZlfTCC7zR— N. K. Jemisin (@nkjemisin) March 8, 2019
First reported case of childhood tetanus in Oregon in 30 years. Almost killed him & put his family nearly a million in debt. Afterward, his parents refused to have him vaccinated against disease https://t.co/YMPZE0hjON pic.twitter.com/pOhZtDKTAD— Dell Cameron (@dellcam) March 8, 2019
So much hype about ‘toxins’ everywhere meanwhile tetanus is an actual, literal toxin that climbs up your nerves and into your spinal cord and brain and makes your muscles painfully spasm and contract until you stop breathing https://t.co/KFMh4MlIXW— James Hamblin (@jameshamblin) March 9, 2019
What if he developed Autism or almost died because of a vaccination‽ It happens, you know.
A friend’s cousin’s hairdresser’s brother told them they knew someone who said they’d heard of someone that happened to.
In addition to this case, due to anti-vaxxers, the USA is experiencing a measles outbreak.
What’s next, polio?
Legislation is looking to crack down on this following a recent 18-year-old’s defiance of his mother’s anti-vaccine beliefs and testifying before Congress about the importance of being vaccinated.

The fact that the parents refused to vaccinate their child after two months of AGONY is infuriating for many.
While vaccine reactions happen, they are rare and almost never fatal. Whereas being exposed to diseases they prevent is often illness inducing and has a much higher mortality rate.
Why continue to gamble with your child’s life when you’ve already played the game and lost?
I am so sick of anti-vax shit popping up on my twitter. VACCINATE YOUR FUCKING KIDS. My child is one that cannot get vaccines! My child also has autism, so stop using my kids normal as an excuse to not vaccinate your child. ???????????? me and my doctor talk shit about you. ????????— Peaches (@srslypeaches) March 6, 2019
The amount of misinformation surrounding anti-vaxxers beliefs is dangerous.
Facebook told The Washington Post that it has “taken steps to reduce the distribution of health-related misinformation on Facebook, but we know we have more to do.”
To conclude, vaccinate your dang kids. VACCINATE THEM!
