This week America (specifically Florida) is actually the worst because more police brutality! Yay!
Three deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were caught on film pouring water from a garden hose and throwing an elbow to the face of 17-year-old Bienvenido Roman:
Bryce Herrera, the person who caught the incident on video, tagged the Sheriff’s office in the tweet.
The office replied that the matter was under investigation.
The matter is under investigation.— Lee County Sheriff (@leesheriff) February 15, 2019
The office put the deputy caught in the video on administrative leave, but did not specify whether it was paid or unpaid.
People are outraged.
I see that2 of the officers have body cams, the footage needs to be requested and secured by the press and the local D.A— Andrew (@Bigglesdaf) February 17, 2019
Explanation: violation of a person’s civil rights by a police office acting under color of law; a federal crime.— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) February 17, 2019
This is battery on a restrained and detained citizen. The deputy needs to be fired and arrested for misdemeanor battery.— Derrick B Jackson (@Jackso2B) February 15, 2019
According to NBC 2, the teenager in the video, Bienvenido Roman, was on the run from police after they attempted to arrest him in Fort Myers Shores.
But that in no way excuses an adult, especially a white adult in a position of authority, elbowing a teenager of color in the face.

Like this is suppose to be normal, and we’re all expected to accept this behavior from Public servants, who make $35,000 plus benefits a year? Cocky!— Kirby (@mcmessmer58) February 17, 2019
Every respectable law enforcement officer in the country should be speaking out against this. These are not police officers, they are criminals & should be in jail. Disgusting.— Jeff (@sosorryworld) February 16, 2019
The action by the police is just pure Evil.— Sunshine (@uvana6) February 16, 2019
I hope a good lawyer takes this case.
Police and law enforcement brutality, which has been under national scrutiny since the Mike Brown’s shooting in 2014, (the impetus for a major step in the #BlackLivesMatter movement) has continued even through early 2019.
Earlier this year in Brooklyn, NY, a NYPD officer was caught on video yanking a one year old child out of the arms of the child’s mother at food-assistance center.

This latest display of police brutality will not go unnoticed.
The Lee County Sheriff’s office has made no further statements on the incident, but people are demanding justice.
Police really will let anyone keep the badge. Just makes it harder for the good ones.— J. Ash Bran (@90sGirl21) February 17, 2019
I realize this is only a quick clip and we don’t know what happened before BUT this person is already restrained and cuffed behind the back. There was zero need for this. This cop clearly is not mentally or emotionally fit for duty.— Jay Cliffe (@jaycliffe) February 17, 2019
So unprofessional, this guy was clearly handcuffed and could not have possibly made a gesture to incite this type of action— Michael Pendergrast (@4thsaucekage) February 16, 2019
Under investigation.... that never results in the outcome it should. This person was cuffed and not resisting in anyway. That was brutality by an immature and unqualified officer...end of story.— justme🌺 (@homz1976) February 16, 2019
His brothers in blue didn’t flinch at what happened. Let’s look at the bigger picture. What about them? Audit the whole lee county department. This is obviously normalized behavior.— Rigamaroo the GOOSE🦆🦆🦆 (@ivel_seveer) February 16, 2019
No more of this. No more.
