Caesar would never have stood for this poor customer service.
Actually, “poor customer service” is being kind: cousins Rosman Harris and Marcus Robertson were given an unpleasant surprise by a Little Caesar’s employee who decided to harass them “because of their behavior.”
The cashier printed out their receipt with the word “gay” on it.
The two men say they were “baffled.”
VIRGINIA: Little Caesars cashier fired for writing "gay" on the receipt of 2 gay men instead of their names. Cashier didn't ask for their names, but asked customers before and after them. The men didn't mention that they were gay in the store. https://t.co/R6KYlsUttq #LGBT #LGBTQ pic.twitter.com/C6q6t5H4DU— LGBT+ News (@mondokoosh) February 21, 2019
Tina Orozco, the communications director for Little Caesar’s, says the incident was investigated by the franchise owner, and the employee in question has been fired.
However, her statement is shockingly devoid of any sort of apology.
Hey @littlecaesars ... any plans for that apology?— ThirtyBirdy™ (@10Plus20Birdy) February 19, 2019

It seems a bit weird for people to go out of their way to be assholes in the service industry.— aran (@arancaytar) February 20, 2019
Doesn't surprise me at all. This location is ratchet & unprofessional as hell. I stopped going there. Who needs all of that when all you want is a hot pizza.😖— LaDivaScorpion (@AvisGra77415781) February 19, 2019
Why would Little Caesar’s do this? They are destroying all the good will they’re built up— Gooey Drewie (@5PAWNsCape) February 21, 2019
Both men identify as gay, but that’s not the information you typically disclose when ordering a pizza.
When they approached the manager immediately after the incident, WRTV reports that they “never got an answer about why this was done.”
why are so many alleged straight people so interested in gays?— tasha zombie (@2muchLogic4Sum) February 21, 2019
Good they fired that dumb head. Zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour!— Paul Huis in 't Veld (@HuisP) February 21, 2019

Hold the cheese and up the hate. The pie graph just went a little darker on the 'despises gays'. https://t.co/cHa26WbPO2 pic.twitter.com/tjwXTf24ML
A few days after, another cousin went back to talk to the cashier.
“[The cashier] said, ‘Well, oh, he was being loud, he was being rude,’” said Robertson.
Robertson wears a hearing aid, so their other cousin jumped in with “No, he wasn’t being loud or rude. He’s hearing impaired, so when he talked loud that’s for him to hear himself speak.”
“Little Caesars maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any violations of professional conduct,” reiterated Orozco to the Huffington Post.
The current political climate is not helpful in times like this.
Just last week, West Virginia lawmaker Eric Porterfield compared LGBTQ+ activists to the KKK, and implied he would drown his children if they turned out to be gay.
This kind of behavior needs to stop being encouraged by lawmakers. In fact, the opposite needs to happen.
And then, perhaps, cashiers at Little Caesar’s won’t feel so emboldened to harass their customers.
