The simple request of wearing a face mask in public to prevent the spread of the pandemic has brought out the worst in more Americans than anybody could have predicted.
A now-viral video shows a couple in a Marshall, Minnesota Walmart wearing Nazi flags as face coverings in the checkout line.
You can watch the video here:
The couple who filmed the video, Raphaela Mueller, 24, and Benjamin Ruesch, 29, can be heard confronting the pair for their tasteless masks.
Ruesch said off-screen:
“You can’t be American and wear that mask. You cannot. We literally had a war about this.”
Nazi mask with a Trump shirt. And they still claim his supporters aren’t racists and bigots. Millions of people were tortured and killed because of what that symbol represents. We as a nation went and stopped it. Now some of our own wear it with pride. What a shame.

I live 40 minutes from Marshall. Believe me this isn’t the norm. These are the outliers that come out and make rural MN look bad.

Hideous. An epidemic of ignorance and hate.

Would it be more impactful if we all just start openly laughing at people like this? They seem to thrive in conflict. Do we just straight up laugh and point? What is actually effective to make ppl think twice about doing this in public?

We will see more and more staged things like this as it gets closer to election day. Notice how animated she was in the middle of Walmart at the check out line. Encouraging more attention to be brought to her.

The unidentified woman approaches the couple denying that she was a Nazi, saying that America would become Nazi Germany if Joe Biden was elected.
After being asked to leave by store management, the pair reportedly became belligerent. Shortly after, the couple were banned from Walmart nationwide for at least one year.

Seeing that symbol, in my state, being openly worn… has just made me sick to my stomach. I’m not using hyperbole. I have tears and I feel so sick.

Why were they allowed into the store? And why did the cashier continue to ring them up? Capitalism over everything decent @Walmart

My grandfather would be very literally triggered by this. As squeezing it.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Walmart said the incident was “unacceptable.”
“We strive to provide a safe and comfortable shopping environment for all our customers and will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment in any aspect of our business.”
“It’s unfortunate that some individuals have taken this pandemic as an opportunity to create a distressing situation for customers and associates in our store.”

Does anybody know what the charges would be for punching a Nazi in the face? This makes my blood boil. pic.twitter.com/1WQTIxjoAK

trump supporters are more outraged by black athletes kneeling than this

The disappointing part is that these people have always been among us. It's just that they laid down in the weeds. Now that they have one of their own in the White House, they're emboldened. If decent Americans don't turn out in November, there will be no going back.

It’s amazing how they don’t recognize how quickly they can be identified and ruined now. I mean, they literally convicted a 93 year old Nazi this week for crimes in the 30’s. People don’t forget. And they will be handled.

As cases of the virus surge in nearly every state across the nation—and masks become more of a mandate in public areas—it seems like an invitation for more folks like this to come out of the woodwork.
