North Carolina Professor Known For His Wildly Offensive Tweets Found Dead In His Home

Mike Adams, a University Of North Carolina-Wilmington Professor—whose biggest claim to fame was trolling the world on Twitter with content better suited to 4chan—was found dead in his home on Thursday.

UNC-Wilmington was in the process of forcing Adams to retire from his job at the university over racist, homophobic, and misogynistic remarks made via Twitter.

Some of those tweets include:

Adams was to be paid $500,000 as part of an early retirement settlement with the university.

Adams’ death was reportedly “suspicious” and is under investigation, but no information was immediately available.

Some of Adams’ more explicitly hateful tweets read:

“Don’t shut down the universities. Shut down the non essential majors. Like Women’s Studies.”

“This evening I ate pizza and drank beer with six guys at a six seat table top. I almost felt like a free man who was not living in the slave state of North Carolina.”

“Massa Cooper, let my people go!”

Adams’ death brings up complex feelings for many on-lookers.

UNCW announced the news.

“It is with sadness that we share the news that the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation involving Dr. Mike Adams, professor of criminology,” the university said in a statement.

“Please keep his friends and loved ones in your thoughts.”
