35-Year-Old Pennsylvania Woman Dies After Falling Into Industrial Meat Grinder

A small town in Pennsylvania is handling the death of one of their own after a 35-year-old woman died in a terrible accident at a meat processing plant.

The woman, now identified as Jill Greninger from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, died when she fell into an industrial meat grinder.

Lycoming County coroner Charles Kiessling, Jr., told ABC News the following:

“I don’t know if she got caught with the moving parts and they pulled her in, or if she just slipped and fell. I don’t know and there’s no way of determining that.”

Greninger died around noon on Monday at the Economy Locker Storage company located near Muncy, Pennsylvania.

The Economy Locker Storage company specializes in the sale of meats and has been in business since the 1900s, according to their website.

Fire and emergency personnel had to work over 45 minutes to completely disassemble and take apart the meat grinder in the effort to retrieve Greninger’s body.

Kiessling said:

“This is just a tragedy…She died inside the moving parts of the machine.”

Kiessling went on to say:

“We talked to the person who found her. He said he heard a noise and went to check on her and found her in the machine. He put the power down and called 911.”

In a phone call with ABC News, Kiessling guessed she may have been standing on a set of rolling stairs when the accident occurred.

Some citizens, who have chosen to remain anonymous, spoke to ABC News out of Pennsylvania.

One woman said:

“It’s devastating to everyone. To…I’ve lived in the community here since 1971 and the store has been up there and…the locker…and I’ve never heard of anything like this before.”

People on Twitter offered their own thoughts on such a tragic turn of events:

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, reports, this is the first reported death at this facility, but an investigation is planned.
