White Texas Man Allegedly Wore Blackface And Fake Beard To Murder His Ex Amid Custody Dispute

Carrollton Police Department

A Texas man is accused of murdering the mother of his 1-year-old child. The tragedy occurred last week, with the suspect being arrested earlier this week.

It’s also believed he wore blackface to try and disguise his connection to this gruesome crime.

Andrew Charles Beard, 33, was arrested Monday morning in connection to the murder of Alyssa Burkett, 24. He surrendered to police after learning of the warrant for his arrest.

He is charged with murder for shooting and stabbing Burkett as she arrived for work.

Police say Beard and Burkett were involved in a bitter custody battle over their 1-year-old child. On Sept. 30, Burkett was awarded custody.

It’s believed Beard started stalking Burkett, with a tracker found on her car, as well as that of her new boyfriend. Similar trackers were found in Beard’s home.

If the evidence is to be believed, this was a very intentionally thought out plan, with Beard buying an old Ford Expedition off Craigslist, and abandoning it after the act. It was found a mile from his house, with traces of dark hair and dried blood.

According to the affidavit, Beard tried to disguise himself before the shooting, wearing a fake beard, and dark foundation to hide his own skin color.

It may have at least partially worked, as two witnesses told investigators it was a Black man who shot Burkett.

Additional evidence was found in a search of Beard’s home, with numerous items found in trash bags, covered in bleach, along with two bottles of dark brown liquid foundation.

After Beard’s arrest, his bond was set at $1 million.

Burkett’s family is heartbroken, saying:

“She had a million-dollar-smile and a heart of gold.”

Previously, Burkett had started a GoFundMe to cover her legal fees, explaining how scared and worried she was.

Now, the family is asking for funds to take care of funeral expenses.

As of yesterday afternoon, Beard is out on bond. The child in question is in protective custody with Child Protective Services.
