Trump Is Convinced He Can’t Be Impeached And His Reasoning Why Is Just… No.

As you may have heard, especially in the wake of Michael Cohen’s confession under oath that President Trump during the 2016 campaign directed him to violate campaign finance law, the President of the United States can be impeached by Congress for various “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Though the founders were a little bit vague about what exactly those high crimes were, they did NOT let Presidents off the hook for doing a “great job,” which is what President Trump believes puts him above the law.

In a recent Fox News interview with Ainsley Earhardt, President Trump commented on the possibility of his own impeachment (since he’s been named as an unindicted co-conspirator to several crimes):

You know, I guess it says something like high crimes and all — I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who has done a great job.

If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash, I think everybody would be very poor. You would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe.

And there you have it! The law doesn’t apply to Trump, and he can never be impeached because the stock market is doing very well!

Of course, Trump’s analysis conveniently ignores that most of the real economic work was done by his predecessor, and that soaring wealth inequality prevents average Americans from reaping any of the benefits of the supposed bull market, and that one of the reasons the market is doing so “well,” is because huge corporations and billionaires were just given a massive tax break, adding over a trillion dollars to the deficit while doing almost nothing for American citizens…but at the end of the day those are all just details! If investors are happy, Trump can commit any crimes he wants!

Driving the point home, President Trump also decided to grade his Presidency:

I give myself an A+. I don’t think any president has ever done what I have done.

We haven’t even been two years. Biggest tax cuts in history.

Soon to be two unbelievable Supreme Court justices, I’m sure that Justice Kavanaugh will be approved. Justice Gorsuch has been a star.

You look at all the things we have done with regulations, the economy is the best it has ever been in history.

The only thing I’m doing badly in is the press doesn’t cover me fairly.

You have to hand it to President Trump: he has an amazing talent for being the President at the moment Supreme Court Justices decide to resign. Please ignore the fact that Brett Kavanaugh is the most unpopular Supreme Court nominee in a generation.

At least President Trump has one thing going for him: he’s beloved by the internet!

Oh wait…

I meant the opposite of that.

I forgot people really don’t like him.

Congratulations on your legal immunity to all crimes, Mr. President! Have fun doing whatever you want with no repercussions…that is, unless Americans demand you’re held accountable by Congress.
