Trump Just Joked About Extending His Presidency To 16 Years—And Twitter Isn’t Laughing

During a press conference on the White House lawn on Thursday, April 12, President Trump joked about the possibility of extending his Presidency to 16 years.

The comment came while Trump was speaking about how effective his administration was at rolling back regulations:

We’ve cut more regulations in a year and a quarter than any administration, whether it’s four years, eight years or, in one case, 16 years,” he said. “Should we go back to 16 years? Congressman, can we have that extended? The last time I jokingly said that, the papers started saying 'he's got despotic tendencies!' No, I'm not looking to do it, unless you want to do it.

Twitter wasn't too amused by the President's joke.

Also, some people couldn't help but point out the inaccuracy of Trump's statement.

Still, perhaps the President was just making a strangely-timed joke…

Maybe the purest way Twitter expressed its reactions to the President was through GIFs…

This isn't the first time Trump has joked about his presidential term. After the recent Chinese elections he broached the subject to a similar reaction:

Some believe the President makes jokes like this to "test the waters."

In short, Twitter had a pretty succinct response to the President's idea:
