U.S. Hunter Sparks Backlash After Hunting And Posing With Wild Goats In Scotland

American TV personality Larysa Switlyk, host of Larysa Unleashed, is facing condemnation from wildlife lovers all over the world for several pictures she recently posted to Instagram. Though she’s hunted many animals on her program, which centers around her love of hunting and fishing, several pictures she took posing with the bodies of dead highland goats and deer in Scotland seem to have caught the ire of the conservation-minded community.

For the caption of one photo, Switlyk wrote:

Beautiful wild goat here on the Island of Islay in Scotland. Such a fun hunt!! They live on the edge of the cliffs of the island and know how to hide well. We hunted hard for a big one for 2 days and finally got on this group. Made a perfect 200 yard shot and dropped him…

To the picture’s detractors, Switlyk describing the hunting and killing of an innocent creature in such a fun, cute tone seems a bit insensitive at best.

She also posted this photo with another dead goat:

Switlyk and her companion, Jason, have been hunting in Scotland for well over a week. Some of these pictures of the pair have inspired action in the Scotish government!

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the photos as “upsetting” and “offensive.” He called on the government to review its conservation laws, under which the hunting of goats and deer as a population control measure is not illegal.

Legal or not, the internet placed itself firmly against Larysa’s hunting:

Some objected to Switlyk’s glorification of the hunt, and posing with dead bodies in such a cheerful fashion.

Many acknowledged that Switlyk’s acts were legal, but wished they weren’t.

Perhaps we’d all be better off if people shot with cameras instead of guns.
