Cher Blasts Trump’s Transgender Plan In Series Of Angry Tweets

Cher took to Twitter this week to defend her son Chaz Bono, who is transgender, in response to reports that the Trump administration is drafting a new policy under which transgender people would not be recognized.

According to the New York Times, the Department of Health and Human Services is spearheading an effort that seeks to define a person’s gender solely based on a person’s genitalia at birth, either male or female, and would not allow gender to be changed once initially assigned.

A memo the Times obtained states that gender should be determined “on a biological basis that is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable.”

Furthermore, if passed, the policy would require anyone disputing their assigned sex to undergo genetic testing.

Cher, a staunch advocate for the LGBT community, did not mince words in her tweets condemning the proposal while defending her son:

The iconic singer urged liberals to vote “like your life depends on it” next month:

And when this Twitter user came to Chaz Bono’s defense, Cher wrote about her son’s character in contrast to that of President Trump’s:

Chaz also shared his feelings on the matter:

Commenters were equally enraged by the policy:

Some commenters vowed to do their part in the upcoming election:

And others expressed gratitude to Cher for being so outspoken:

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6.
