Viral Video Of A Volcano Erupting With Hot Pink Smoke Inspired A Genius Tweet ?

A video, supposedly of a volcano in New Zealand erupting with pink smoke, went viral on Twitter when @swaveyvicc found the perfect context to explain its strange color.

Twitter would have loved nothing more than to be at the gender reveal party where this volcano was the guest of honor!

Before you get too excited about New Zealand celebrating the world’s most important baby, however, there’s some bad news: Snopes (the well-established fact-checking website) has reported that while the laughs @swaveyvicc gave us were real, the video that inspired them is not.

Though the original tweet featuring the volcano claims the smoke has turned pink due to some unexplained chemical process, the entire video was actually created by artist Filip Hodas, and first appeared on his Facebook in December 2016 with the title “pink volcano.”

So it looks like the mountain-sized gender reveal we were all so excited about may not have happened. But, if a very very wealthy person watches this video, it may yet still happen…in the beautiful future!
