While love may be a “many splendored thing,” there’s a reason people also say it’s blind.

When to unconditionally support someone and when to “nope” out of the situation can be hard to figure out when the L-word is involved. That’s why Redditor stefanodelucaprive took to the “Relationship Advice” subReddit for help.

The 27-year-old Swiss Redditor posted:

“My American girlfriend invites me to join a weird cult.”

“ACHTUNG! First of all; I’m not racist and English is not my primary language.”

“I’ve been dating her for approximately one year.”

“We’ve met at The King Cole Bar (St. Regis) when I visited New York City before [the pandemic].”

“Two weeks ago she just revealed that she’s a member of The Church of Scientology or something similar to a spiritual enlightenment religious cult.”

“She started to ask me if I truly understand the meaning of life followed by these questions:”

  • ‘Do you think you are you?’
  • ‘Do you want to be free?’
  • more confusing and odd questions…

“Let’s be clear, I’m an atheist and nihilist.”

“I don’t believe in celestial beings or any bullsh*t stuffs but she does.”

Her behavior has become extremely weird and weirder as I want to transform myself into a Panzerkampfwagen VI (a tank) in the meantime when she talks about her belief.”

“However, I already fell for her angelic voice, I loved her but her weirdo behavior into that cult…”

Redditors had the same advice for this relationship across the board.

Many pointed out the use of recruiters by cults.

“Run. She’s a recruiter. Cut her out and do not listen to her.” ~ ControlFYOU

“I grew up in a cult (not this one) and you don’t want ANYTHING to do with that cult life no matter if she had the body of Aphrodite herself and the voice of an angelic siren.” ~ AdventureHasAName

“Bro. Jump ship, now.”

“I know you may like her a lot, but people in those kinds of cults and religions will try to get you in, and it seems you don’t want that at all.”

“So, my advice is tell her it’s not going to work. But that’s just my opinion.” ~ XyroSum

No one had high hopes for this pairing.

“Run. The only reason she’s dating you is to rope you into the cult.” ~ phishtrader

“Exactly! She’s like recruiting people for this crazy cult. Run dude!” ~ klmtovar

The OP did not return to provide an update, but if he followed the advice he received, this girl is far in his rearview mirror now.
